TAI Labs vs Honen

Generated courses, or proof your team can do the work?

Our verdict
Honen to distribute what you already know; TAI Labs to build capability you can evidence

Both turn your documents into courses — that part is genuinely similar, and both do it in about a minute. They diverge on what happens next. Honen invests in breadth of delivery: nine activity types, a voice tutor, SCORM and LTI export, and a knowledge base that also feeds your AI agents. TAI Labs invests in proof: a library of real recorded lessons from named practitioners, certification earned by shipping a project rather than finishing a video, an AI-readiness model your exec team can act on, and live humans running bootcamps and office hours. If your problem is "our knowledge is trapped in a wiki nobody reads", Honen is a strong fit. If it is "we have AI licences and no AI capability, and I have to show the board something real", that is a different product.

Overview

Honen (by StudyFetch) and TAI Labs both generate courses from your company documents. This is an honest comparison of where each one is genuinely stronger, including the places Honen wins outright, so you can tell quickly which problem you actually have.

Turning your docs into a course
Attach a doc, deck, PDF or YouTube link, or just describe the topic; a short guided conversation then produces units, topics, quizzes, hands-on projects and a unit test
Same idea, and the marquee feature: docs, recordings, video or a topic become a full course in around 30 seconds
Ways to consume a lesson
Reading, quizzes and applied projects, alongside a library of real recorded video lessons
Nine activity types — reading, flashcards, quizzes, lectures, podcasts, comics, games, jam sessions and AI chat — plus AI-generated video and roleplay scenarios
The tutor in the lesson
A private 1:1 chat tutor grounded in the lesson and your company knowledge base. Conversations are never persisted and never shown to a manager
A live tutor in both voice and chat that knows every lesson and every learner
Ready-made expert content
A published library of recorded lessons and certification tracks from named practitioners, added to every week
No first-party expert library — the platform generates content from what you supply
What a certificate means
Earned by shipping a real project against a rubric, tied to work the person actually did
Certificates of completion, plus six auto-graded project types
Measuring organisational readiness
A seven-dimension AI-readiness model with evidence and confidence per score, a workflow adoption pipeline, and quarterly executive reporting
Completion, engagement and mastery signals per learner, with a workspace assistant that answers questions about them
Live human delivery
Cohort bootcamps, workshops, office hours and 12-week custom programmes built on your own stack
Software only
Company knowledge base
Sources are stored and retrieved automatically to ground every course and every tutor answer
A knowledge base that also feeds your AI agents, reachable from Slack and iMessage and connectable to Claude or ChatGPT over MCP
Enterprise plumbing and compliance
Tenant isolation and privacy thresholds today; SSO, SCIM, audit logs and LTI are on the roadmap, and we are not yet SOC 2 certified
SOC 2 Type II certified, with SSO/SAML, SCIM, role-based access, audit logs, LMS/LTI 1.3, SCORM export and an API
Price
$499 per employee per year (or $49/month), 5-seat minimum, including the full library and every certification track
$20 per seat per month with a 5-seat minimum, so $100/month to start; bulk pricing over 30 seats
For the individual employee
A personal career product too — career coaching, job tools and an accelerator that has placed people into roles at companies like Google
A $20/month Personal plan for solo learners, focused on course creation rather than career outcomes

Who should choose what?

Choose TAI Labs if…

  • You have to show a board or a CFO that training changed what people can do, not that they completed a module
  • You want your team learning from practitioners who actually ship with these tools, not only from your own documents
  • You want AI readiness measured across the organisation, with evidence behind each score
  • You want live delivery — bootcamps, workshops, office hours — alongside the software
  • Career outcomes for your people matter to you as a retention story

Choose Honen if…

  • Your main problem is distribution: a lot of internal knowledge, and no time to turn it into training
  • You need SOC 2, SSO, SCIM and LTI 1.3 signed off before anything can be bought
  • You already have an LMS and need SCORM export or an LTI launch into it
  • You want the widest possible range of learning formats, including podcasts, games and voice
  • You want the lowest possible entry price to trial something quickly

Frequently asked questions

Does TAI Labs generate courses from our own documents, like Honen?
Yes, and it is included in a seat rather than sold as an add-on. Anyone in your company can attach a handbook, SOP, deck or recorded session — or just describe a topic — and get back a structured course with units, topics, quizzes, hands-on projects and a unit test, published to your whole team. Every lesson carries a private 1:1 tutor, and everything you add joins your company knowledge base so later courses start from it.
What does Honen do better?
Four things, honestly. Breadth of format — nine activity types including podcasts, games and comics, against our reading, quizzes and projects. A voice tutor, where ours is chat. Enterprise plumbing — they are SOC 2 Type II certified with SSO, SCIM, audit logs, LTI 1.3 and SCORM export, and we are not yet. And price: $20 per seat per month against our $499 a year.
Why is TAI Labs more expensive per seat?
Because a seat is not the same unit. A Honen seat is a course generator for your own material. A TAI Labs seat is that plus the entire published video library, every certification track, the certifications themselves, and everything we publish while the seat is active. If you only need to turn your wiki into training, that difference is not worth paying for, and we would rather you knew that before buying.
Can a manager read what someone asks the tutor?
No. Tutor conversations are private to the employee and are not persisted at all — there is no transcript for anyone to read. Managers see assigned-activity completion, certifications earned and aggregated team patterns, with thresholds that protect small groups. This is a deliberate design constraint, not a setting.
Is generated course content good enough to train people on?
For transmitting things your company already knows — a process, a policy, an onboarding path — it is genuinely good, which is why we built it. What it cannot do is tell you whether anyone can now do the job. That is why our certification is earned by shipping a project against a rubric rather than by finishing lessons, and it is the main reason we did not simply become a course generator.
Do you integrate with our existing LMS?
Not yet. Honen supports SCORM export and LTI 1.3 launch into Canvas, Moodle and Blackboard; we do not. If an LMS launch is a hard requirement for your rollout, that is a real reason to choose them today.
